Blackpool Zoo – Main Areas
With 1,500 animals, birds and insects from all over the world, Blackpool Zoo has created different areas with different climates whereby each area recreates the natural environment of the animals they house.
There are 9 different areas in Blackpool Zoo including the Hot Forest where you will find animals, plants and insects from the Asian and African Tropical Forests (Orang-utan from Borneo, Pileated Gibbon from Thailand, Elephant from Asia, Western Lowland Gorilla and Ring-tailed Lemur from Madagascar); the Hot Grassland (be prepared to be amazed by stripey zebras, African lions and ostriches); the Hot Desert, one of the toughest habitats on earth where you will observe Gazelles, Meerkats and Camels!
After a break to catch your breath you can head to the Warm Forest, home to the Siberian Tiger and Muntjac Deer; followed by the Warm Grassland and Warm Desert.
Next, wrap up warm and make your way to the Cold Forest / Grassland area, where the great grey owl and the reindeer survive in temperature close to -40 degrees Celsius in winter!
Finish a great day out with the family by admiring sealions and otters in Water World before heading to the Mountain Area where many animals have adapted to cold conditions.
Children's Zoo
Blackpool Zoo also offers children a chance to meet and feed miniature donkeys, rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens in a special walk round area.
Two outdoor play areas have also been designed so that your little ones can let off steam before going home!
